19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's first championship since the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.
Victory also indicates the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.
His defensive approach and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a final set.
He rescued four initial opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
